2019 Appeal Message from Fr. Mink

Dear Parishioners

Our parish recently received an updated report from the diocese regarding our assigned goal of $145,000 for the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal.‎ As of the July 10th report our parish is approximately $23,000 BELOW our goal. Last year we easily exceeded our goal and $9000 was rebated to us for use in our parish and school. The participation rate of our parish membership to the Appeal is only 19%. I had to reread this report twice as it startled me and caused concern. St. Ann's has always been a leader in the support of diocesan ministries that support the poor, and marginalized, Catholic education and ministry to those in nursing homes and hospitals. If you have not had a chance to participate, I respectfully urge you to do so. Pledges can be made until December 31st to be eligible for the IRS deduction for the 2019 tax year. If you have already given to this year's Annual Catholic Appeal, I am extremely grateful for your generosity.

As each parish has an obligation to do its part, it is Bishop Malooly's policy as well as that of his predecessors that parishes that do not meet their assigned goals must make up the difference from parish funds. As a pastor, this is a hard pill to swallow, giving up parish funds, as we have many ministries and an excellent school to support on an extremely tight budget.  My personal feelings aside, the parish does receive benefit from the Appeal as well. If you were a past participant and have chosen not to participate for a particular reason, I would ask that you would let me know the reason for discontinuing your support. That means signing your name so that I can respond to your concerns and pass them along to the bishop who needs to hear the concerns of his people. This is YOUR church. If you don't like something, say something. Be assured, I won't show up on your door step. I am grateful to all who continue to support our parish through the offertory and for the very generous contributions you give to our parish school and PREP Religious Education Program. At a time when Catholic education has competition from tuition-free taxpayer supported schools, your sacrifice is inspiring. It is my hope that we will continue to be a leader in support of our much needed diocesan ministries.                                                                                                                                                                         Prayerfully… Father Mink
